![]() ![]() Replacing this important automotive component is easy and takes about half an hour to complete. How do you replace the third brake light?Īlso called the high mount stop light, the third brake light enables other drivers to notice when you slow down regardless if your taillights are obscured. For perspective, that means you could leave an LED light on for over five years straight before running the risk of burnout. LED lights also don’t get hot to the touch after being on for hours, take up a tiny amount of space, and are rated to last 50,000 hours. LED light bulbs, called diodes, are energy-efficient while producing a prodigious amount of illumination. While other types of taillights are available for the Mazda MPV, LED lighting is an updated technology with a wide variety of automotive applications. What are the benefits of Mazda LED taillights? These are mostly used for aesthetic purposes and dont affect how the taillights function. While smoked lights may appear darker on the road, they still emit the same amount of the necessary illumination that keeps you and other drivers safe. What are the advantages of smoked taillights?īy layering a thin piece of tinted film over the inside of a taillight lens, some headlight manufacturers manage to impart a covert look to what would otherwise be your everyday brake lights. Sort through the following offerings and pick out the right Mazda MPV taillights for your car. Replacement and upgraded taillight offerings for the Mazda MPV come in a wide variety of lighting technologies and tint options. Make sure that your multipurpose vehicle has got you covered from behind by keeping your taillights bright and up to date. ![]()

![]() ![]() Reconnecting these mystery wires can be easy or a nightmare. Always, always take pictures and make notes if you disconnect wires for any reason! Sometimes we intentionally disconnect wires in the disassembly and repair process. They can be ripped off of the circuit board when we replace batteries, take the radio apart for cleaning or repair, and so forth. Battery, headphone jack and speaker wires are all common issues. Disconnected or Broken Wiresĭisconnected wires are often another trouble source. ![]() Radios that cover AM, FM and Shortwave bands typically have band switches used to select the frequency range & electronics necessary to receive the various signal types. Other times you will need to disassemble the switch (risky), or replace it with one from a parts donor. Sometimes these can be fixed with contact cleaner. For instance, I have seen perhaps a half-dozen Zenith Royal 500H sets with defective power switches. Less frequently, power or tone control switches fail as well. Unfortunately, some switches are often difficult to reach for cleaning, and are a nightmare to replace, even if you can find a useable donor part. If a radio doesn’t play it is very likely that one or more switches will need cleaning.Īgain, a squirt or a dribble of contact cleaner might be all that is needed if toggling the switch multiple times does not cure the issue. Switches collect corrosion and dirt over time, especially if a radio has spent lots of time near salt water. ![]() This will disable the earphone feature, but sound will play through the speaker. As a last resort, you can wire around the broken connection. You might need to replace, rather than repair these. Occasionally, bending the contacts with needle nose pliers might be necessary, but it’s easy to do more harm than good. If this fails, resort to contact cleaner. Start by inserting and removing a plug repeatedly. Use the same techniques described for cleaning volume controls and switches. If the earphone works, but the speaker doesn’t, then dirty speaker contacts in the jack might be the issue. Plugging in an earphone can help you diagnose this problem. For this to work properly the contacts need to be clean. When the plug is inserted it disconnects the speaker. When the earphone plug is removed both contact points touch, sending the sound to the speaker rather than to the earphones. Dirty/faulty Earphone JacksĪ surprising number of dead radios can be brought back to life by cleaning the small metal contacts in earphone jacks. Put some of it in a “pin oiler” bottle and apply it that way. ![]() You can even use liquid rubbing alcohol in a pinch. I like DeoxIT brand spray, but there are many other good ones. If this fails you should try squirting contact cleaner into the volume control. Sometimes simply moving the volume control rapidly back-and-forth ten or twenty times can clean up the two surfaces. Over time dirt and corrosion build up making the connection between the wiper and the coating unreliable. Volume controls are “variable resistors,” which consist of a circular resistive coating (the gray part in the illustration) and a wiper that slides over this material. Sometimes this problem is so bad that you will hear no, or only the scratching noises, making you think that the radio is not receiving signals, and is dead. When you move a volume control knob and hear scratchy, static-filled sounds it is likely due to dirty volume control innards. Dirty or damaged terminals will silence a radio. Old batteries were prone to leaking corrosive goo that forms an insulating insulator on the metal parts, preventing contact between the battery and terminals. Batteries, Holders and Terminalsīattery holders are probably the main enemy of old portable radios. As always, practice on less valuable radios until you feel confident. If you have never done these things, they are fun and easy to learn.Īppendix Two shows you the skills you’ll need. You might need to do some soldering and desoldering. You don’t need to understand much radio theory or any engineering formulas to do many common AM transistor radio repairs. ![]() ![]() In addition to Cat heavy equipment rentals, we're also home to more than 70 other top-tier brands, like JLG, Genie, Ditch Witch, Kubota, Toro and Vermeer for aerial lifts, air compressors, concrete equipment, pressure washers, trailers and dump trucks. Apple had some of the best examples of skeuomorphism in its early iOS and app designs, and today it is widely used in many industries, such as music software and video games. To put it simply, flat design gets rid of the metaphors that skeuomorphic design uses to communicate with users, and we’ve seen these metaphors in design, especially in user interface design, for years. In recent years, we’ve seen the rise of "flat design", in contrast to what is known as skeuomorphic representation in design. ( View large version) Introduction: The Flat Design Era The three work environments: draw persona (leftmost icon), bitmap persona (middle icon) and export persona (rightmost icon). You can start working in the draw persona and switch to the pixel persona at any time, when you need to combine vectors and bitmaps. To switch from the draw persona to the pixel persona or to the export persona, you have to click on one of the three icons located in the top-left corner of the main window. By default, Affinity Designer is set to the draw persona. Note: Affinity Designer has three work environments, referred to as “personas”. Of course, along the way, you will also learn some helpful keyboard shortcuts and commands. We will also, among other things, learn how to use the Gradient tool, what is a “Smart copy”, how to import a color palette from an image that we can use as a reference for our artwork, how to use masks, and how to create a halftone pattern. We will see how to work with the Pen tool to trace the main car outline, how to break curves and segments, how to convert objects into curves, and how to use the wonderful Corner tool. I will also explain some of the decisions I take and methods I follow as I work. Final image that we’ll be creating in this tutorial. Although the iPad app’s features and functionality almost completely match the desktop version of Affinity Designer, it relies much more on using the touch screen (and the Apple Pencil) and because of that, you may expect to find some differences in the workflows. Note: As of today, July 11, Affinity Designer is also available for the iPad. The illustration will scale up to whatever resolution and size needed because no bitmaps will be used. No longer is Lara just pulling switches, pushing boxes and making leaps of faith, now you'll supplement those basics by swinging across gaps, running along walls, hopping daintily from pole to pole and pulling loose scenery down. Whatever solutions worked then, the fact that Lara's now blessed with a grapple gun changes the way you approach the puzzle fundamentals completely. Although it uses largely the exact same geometry as you might dimly recall, the way the levels play out make it feel like an entirely new game. Even if you played the game back when it came out, it's a game that you might enjoy even more now than you did then. Ever wondered why Lara's thighs are the same width as her calves?īut for all the acclaim lavished upon Anniversary this year, isn't it just a remake of the 1996 original with Legend's game engine and control system? Yes, but it's an update that just happens to work fantastically well - due in no small part to incredible level design which has barely dated in 11 years that have elapsed. But if Legend was the hand that saved the series from the abyss, Anniversary hauls Lara Croft back into the fray in some style. The first step towards that was 2006's Tomb Raider Legend - a game with terrible combat, dreadful boss monsters, cringeworthy motorbike sections, but enough action adventure excitement overall to remind people what the fuss was about. Essentially, after mucking about with the series for years and ending up the frankly disastrous Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, Eidos knew it had to take the series back to basics and recapture what people liked about Lara games in the first place. If you've joined the party late and are wondering why we're gibbering on about conversion quality and just want to know whether the game's any good in general, read on. Tomb Raider: Anniversary might not be pushing the boundaries of visual excellence on the 360 (nor did Legend, thinking about it), but it's still a great looking game - mainly because the peerless level design throughout conjures such an eerily evocative atmosphere. ![]() That the conversion team hasn't even rendered the game's front-end font in high resolution perhaps tells its own story, but fortunately, once you dive into the game itself, there's really nothing to get hung up about for more than five seconds. There's also a sense that the game doesn't really take full advantage of the 360's high definition capabilities - instead upscaling rather less ambitious resolutions, perhaps to ensure the game runs flawlessly. Visually, it seems that the developers stopped short of providing us with the ultimate version, with a few of the graphical bells and whistles apparent on the PC version (like Lara's glistening skin as she emerges from water) shorn from this version. No one who played the surprisingly excellent PC version should be too shocked by that fact, though, and it's this sumptuous-looking version that serves as the template for the 360 release. Like a bear.Īpart from being able to get it on the cheap, there's another good reason for Tomb Raider fans to feel upbeat about waiting five months for a 360 version - Buzz Monkey has pulled off a solid conversion which manages to feel right at home on the format, despite the game's humble PS2 origins. ![]() The latter option, in particular, offers superb value for the kind of gamers who never get beyond the first few levels - but forcing Eidos to restrict sales of the downloadable version to owners of Legend seems like another of those illogical Xbox Live rules that ought to be shot in the head. Interestingly, owners of last year's Tomb Raider Legend also have the option of downloading the game in four separate 'episodes', each priced at 600 points. First up, Eidos has been smart enough to release the game at mid-price, with most UK retailers pricing it at just GBP 24.99 for the boxed version. Whatever the ins and outs are of Tomb Raider: Anniversary's protracted passage to the Xbox 360, there's plenty to celebrate about this tardy conversion. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you have any other questions about painting your home in the Cranston, Richmond, or Narragansett areas, contact Dennis Moffitt Painting at 40. Make sure to wipe down the Azek with denatured alcohol to clean and properly prepare the surface before painting. There are some things to pay attention to that a do-it-yourself home painter may overlook: I believe, however, that it does make their product appear much better by painting it. So if you are looking for a different color or sheen, you have no choice but to paint.Īzek maintains that it does not require painting for a maintenance free product and we agree. No way to get around this one: Azek only comes in white, and it is flat. This is one of the main reasons that our customers have made the decision to have Azek painted. Joints where Azek trim boards will still need to be caulked in and over time the caulk ages a different color than the Azek color itself. The problem is that very few contractors are using this system. ![]() This blends very nicely and is not noticeable to the naked eye. Not only does it provide efficiency in the painting process, but it also packs a one-two punch to ensure low maintenance and long-term reliability. AZEK Trim with PaintPro Technology is engineered for consistency, moisture and rot resistance, durability, and workability. The essentially bore out a hole of the Azek and the material is saved. The more qualified contractors are using the plug system. The fastening systems have gotten much better. This is especially helpful around high traffic areas like entry ways and garage door trim.Īfter the Azek is installed, nail holes have to be filled and joints need to be caulked in. Again, by painting the Azek, it helps seal up the porosity of the material. Dirt, smudges etc will wash off much easier. When painted, Azek becomes much more washable than untreated Azek. If you were to paint the Azek is helps seal up the Azek to prevent mildew from forming on the edge and end grain cuts. This edge and end grain will tend to hold water longer after moisture (rain, morning dew, etc.) This is why you will see the edges turn black and often green with mold and mildew when left unpainted. The edge and end grain in Azek is more porous than the faces of the Azek. We are a painting company, so of course we recommend painting it! Just kidding, but we do recommend it and here are our reasons why, as well as some F.A.Q.s about the Azek product. Painting contractors here at Dennis Moffitt Painting have had this question asked over and over, season after season. To paint or not to paint Azek? That is the question. ![]() ![]() ![]() The powerful two-seater, which sold for $52,000, sparked immediate interest in the Dodge brand among enthusiasts and the automotive press. In November 1991, the car was released to reviewers with the first retail shipments beginning in January 1992. One year later, Carroll Shelby piloted a pre-production car as the pace vehicle in the Indianapolis 500 race. By auto industry standards $70 million was not a lot of money but the potential in improved image was fantastic. Official approval from Iacocca came in May 1990. Though a V8 engine was first used in the test mule called White Mule, the V10 engine, which the production car was meant to use, was ready in February 1990. The production body was completed in Fall 1989, with a chassis prototype running in December. The team asked the then-Chrysler subsidiary Lamborghini to cast a prototype aluminum block for the sports car to use in May. Sjoberg selected 85 engineers to be "Team Viper", with development beginning in March 1989. But then Chrysler chairman Lee Iacocca delayed approving the $70 million needed to put the sports car into production, saying it was a lot to spend without assurance of financial return. Public reaction was so enthusiastic that chief engineer Roy Sjoberg was directed to develop it as a standard production vehicle. Produced in sheet metal by Metalcrafters, the car appeared as a concept at the North American International Auto Show in 1989. The following February, Chrysler president Bob Lutz suggested to Tom Gale at Chrysler Design Center that the company should consider producing a modern Cobra, and a clay model was presented to Lutz a few months later. The Viper was initially conceived in late 1988 at Chrysler's Advanced Design Studios. Top speed ranges from 160 mph to over 200 mph, depending on variant and year. The 0-60 mph time on a Viper varies from around 3.5 to 4.5 seconds. The Viper was eventually discontinued in 2017 after 26 years of production. In 2014, the Viper was named number 10 on the "Most American Cars" list, meaning 75% or more of its parts are manufactured in the U.S. Production of the two-seat super car began at New Mack Assembly Plant in 1991 and moved to Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in October 1995.Īlthough Chrysler considered ending production because of serious financial problems, on September 14, 2010, then-chief executive Sergio Marchionne announced and previewed a new model of the Viper for 2012. ![]() Whether the specific place was the river of death or just at the bottom of a big hole or even just in some room somewhere, the point is that Hercules agreed to stay in that place forever, in exchange for freeing Meg's soul. What's relevant is that Hercules made a deal to stay somewhere for eternity. It's like playing a carnival game you're paying for the CHANCE to win a prize, but that doesn't mean you're gauranteed to win one, or that the deal is void if you don't win.Īlso, River has power over mortals only, right? Think of it like "Hercules staying there forever" is the price of admission that Hercules is paying for a CHANCE to get Meg out. The wording Hades uses is very specific he's saying that IF Hercules can get her out, she's free, but either way, Hercules stays there forever. The deal was that Hercules can TRY to get her out, and if he does, she can go free. I think the deal is void since Hades didn’t tell Herc that the River would kill him prior to retrieving Meg.ĭoesn't matter. Sure Hades doesn't win, but Hercules sure as hell loses. ![]() The movie ignores the fact that Hercules made that deal and pretends like he gets his happy ending, but in actuality he'd be bound to the river for all of time. ![]() In this case, he'd be immortal and wouldn't die, but he'd still be stuck in the river forever. The deal wasn't that Hercules would die in exchange for Meg's soul it was that hel would be bound to the river for eternity in exchange for Meg's soul, and that deal would still be binding whether it kills him or not. If Hercules getting his strength back was automatic and unavoidable, then Hercules being stuck in the underworld for eternity would also be automatic and unavoidable.Īnd sure sure, he's a god and gods can't die, so you may want to argue that the river of death can't kill him, but it doesnt need to. So why would it be any different this time? Why would Hercules have any say in whether or not he was bound to the river of death for eternity or not? Hades wasn't given a choice of whether he wanted to honor his to deal return Hercules's strength upon Meg getting hurt it happened automatically and there was nothing Hades could do about it. Deals made with gods are clearly magic and it's not up to the individuals involved whether they want to honor it it just happens. ![]() If he tried to welch on the deal he'd just be magically sucked into the underworld or something of that nature and would be physically unable to exit the river of death. Once he took Meg's soul back to her body, he would have no choice but to return to the underworld and spend eternity in the river of death. God or not, immortal or not, Hercules is irrevocably bound by that deal. The plothole: Even if he survived the river, Hercules would still be bound to stay there for eternity. But, it turns out, being willing to sacrifice his life for Meg's has made Hercules a true hero and restored his godhood, so he makes it out of the river alive, returns Meg's soul to her body, and they live happily ever after. Hades agrees, saying "You get her out, she goes, you stay." Hercules then dives into the river to retrieve Meg's soul, and Hades reveals that the river will actually kill Hercules before he can reach Meg. So towards the end of the movie, Hercules makes a deal with Hades, that he will take Meg's place in the river of death trading his soul for hers. Spoilers for a movie that came out in 1997. ![]() |
